Description:
Large sized, small billed, mostly olive-brown and plain backed scaly thrush. Belly and flanks are generally more clearly scaled with black. Has more rufescent coloration to upperparts, especially to uppertail-coverts/rump and tail, less pronounced pale wing-panel, and shorter tail.
Distribution:
Possible resident in the south-western parts of Ghizer and Diamer districts. Summers on rocky and grassy slopes with bushes and creeping juniper up to 3600-4250m. Winters lower in forest and open country with bushes down to 1300m.
Behavior:
Forages on ground usually in shade and moving stealthily. Turns over leaves and rotting vegetation; probes in earth. Sometimes in loose flocks in non-breeding season. Feeds on insects, snails, leeches mainly in the summers; also takes plant material like berries, fruit and seeds in winters.
